Greetings colleagues, I am looking for the locations (what manuscript, collection etc) for the following da Vinci quotes: 1. The unicorn, through its intemperance and not knowing how to control itself, for the love it bears to fair maidens forgets its ferocity and wildness; and laying aside all fear it will go up to a seated damsel and go to sleep in her lap, and thus the hunters take it. 2. Painting is poetry which is seen and not heard, and poetry is a painting which is heard but not seen. 3. All our knowledge has its origins in our perceptions. 4. Art is never finished, only abandoned. 5. Where the spirit does not work with the hand, there is no art. Ideally, I would like to find these quotes in da Vinci's actual handwriting. This has proven impossible thus far. Any assistance you can offer is most appreciated. Best Regards, Jefferson Kirkland |
