Farnfest is a locally organised music Festival in Farnborough Kent and as part of next years Festival we are planning an outdoor Choral and Orchestral Concert to include:

The Lark Ascending - Vaughan Williams,
Symphony no.9 - Beethoven
Farnborough Symphony - The premier of a new work for choir and Orchestra commisioned by the festival, by Alastair Cameron

One of the aims of the Festival is to promote music making of all types within the area and we are looking for local Instrumentalists and Singers who would be interested in taking part in this performance.

Although we are looking for amateur musicians for this project rehearsal time is limited and all musicians must be of a high standard (ABRSM Grade 8) and participation may be subject to audition.

The performance is on 4th June 2005 with rehearsals in April/May 2005.

If you would be interested in participating in this performance or require more information please do not hesitate to get in touch.

I just started listening to classical music and my sister gave me a CD by an Italian opera singer by the name of Andrea Bocelli. I don't really understand him, but i love his voice. Since everyone here is great music critics, I would love to hear what your opinions are.

i went to a dinner recently where i ended up finding out they were playing Katherine Jenkins in the background. her voice is absolutely beautiful and i was so impressed with the cd that i went out and bought it the next day. i found out she's a 23 year old Opera singer from Wales. Has anyone else heard anything about this talented, young artist?

I actually came across Ronnie Segev by accident through a strange situation. But, yeah, check it out. I actually saw him perform at Studio 54 not too long ago....it is really rad to see an influx of classical into the mainstream of NY.

I think what Ronnie Segev and the Ten O'Clock Classics is great. Not only are they talented musicians, but they're also sharing their love of music with the community and making music accessible to inner city kids in New York. They talk about their work in this video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=z0UVXAH8kYU

I must say I was suspicious at first, but "Getting Opera" really has changed my entire view of opera. It's a whole different universe out there. Check it out (warning: you might get hooked on opera):

I'm also a fan of Ronnie Segev's and I think it's great that he is giving to the community. Take a look at this site about the Directions Program developed by Ronnie Segev and the Ten O'Clock Classics to give underprivileged kids in New York access to music education. http://directionsmusic.org/

Hi all

I am directing a production of Romeo and Juliet at present for an 'in the parks' season here in Adelaide Australia.

I am setting the production in 1947 Italy: Piazzas, lots of coffee, wine, pasta etc. I am mostly using traditional Italian folk music. I am however looking for a piece to underscore the visuals of the wedding and want to go quite classical; very moody, gentle and something that symbolizes my feeling for the play which is that it is a celebration of youth and the new world and very much Juliet's "sonnet'.

I thought i would put it out there and see if the aficionados have any suggestions beyond my novice knowledge of music.

you can email my workplace: ad@urbanmyth.asn.au

Thanks for your help
Glenn

Hi all,

Let me introduce myself. I'm Luc Peulen, from the Netherlands. As a second year student at the Eindhoven University of technology, department of Industrial design, I’m currently working on a project about music industry, specificly regarding music distribution. For this, I need input from you; therefore I created an on-line survey.

The aim of this questionnaire is to gain insight in the way music you experience music, how you think about downloading music, and I’m interested in community building on the internet. Because I need respond from people interest in all kinds of music, I also post on this board.

Filling out this survey will costs you about five minutes. I would really appreciate it if you would take part.

SURVEY:
You can find the survey here:
http://www.thesistools.com/so/web/index.php?formID=73780&ln=eng&page=1&uid=

Please mind: the site asks for your e-mail address. You don’t have to provide this! Just enter a random word; it is purely used to identify separate users.

Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Thanks a bunch,
Luc

Wilma Cozart Fine, the producer of the wonderful Mercury Living Presence classical record series during the 1950s and 1960s is very seriously ill. I called her yesterday, and talked to her caretaker. She brought the phone to Wilma and she was able to listen to me, but had much difficulty replying. Her late husband, Bob Fine, was the engineer for the recordings, which were way ahead of their time for high fidelity and stereo recording. Much of the catalog has also been released on compact discs.

For any classical fans in LA, the Hollywood Bowl has two great concerts coming up: Mozart & Strauss, both conducted by Gustavo Dudamel. Bring some friends/family, a picnic (and some wine!), and enjoy one of LA's most amazing nights under the stars. I am working with the Bowl and can't wait for the shows! More info here: http://www.Hbowl.com/Gustavo
