Re: North South NGO development co-operation

Hi, my name is Ru-yi. I'm interested in volunteering abroad this summer, or even next December 1999. I'm paraticularly interested in an ecology/sustainable farming project. I just want to work and learn about traditional agriculture, ways to help the environment and people at the same time. Please only send me info on organizations that are truly about helping the environment and people (no Peace Corp-impose-western-culture-on-other-people please)
THANKS SO MUCH

Respected Sir/Madam,

I am a final year MBA student at IIT Kanpur. One of my very close friends, Reshma, is having some serious problems. She passed ISC 2002 with good marks from La Marteneirs, Calcutta. She is interested in Textile Designing or Fashion designing. She got admission to NIFT Calcutta, but could not join due to her daddy. Catastrophically, her daddy has fallen into some bad company and now has completely stopped supporting his family. Now this poor girl of 20 years of age has to support her mother and herself all by herself. Her dreams of a career is virtually finished, now she is looking for some job or vocational courses to support her mother. Now the family runs with money obtained from selling all her and her mother's jewellery. But this money is drying up fast. I have got to do something for her. I will be eternally obliged to anyone who can help my friend and help take us out of these difficult times. If this girl gets into distress and does something terrible, I'll not be able to forgive myself all my life. She is a good frined of mine from my school days, and now my friend is in trouble. Reshma wants to study textile designing. If anyone can fund her studies, if not in textile designing, but even if in some cheaper vocational course which can help her earn her living respectfully, it would be like giving a new life to her. Please if you all can get some help for me, I shall be grateful to you all my life. Please let me know whatever I need to do anyhow to go about it, to seek help from you people.

PURBACHAL ANANDA FOUNDATION

Phone-91 343 2552230, 91 9434647457, http://www.pafindia.org
(Registered Under Societies Registration Act West Bengal XXVI of 1961 S/1L/32097)

AN OASIS OF LOVE FOR CHILDREN & AGED PERSONS

An Appeal

Purbachal Ananda Foundation ( PAF) has come into being out of an earnest commitment and desire of a group of young social workers to accomplish a mission of their own, for the cause of those children and aged persons who are not loved and cared for by the society at large. These young persons who had some experiences in working for such people either in their own individual capacities or as volunteers in some NGOs involved in similar activities. But, through such exposures and experiences came a realization that one’s own mission as also vision can be accomplished if only such activities could be undertaken independently. Thus was ‘born’ PAF.
We, in PAF, believe in the saying that ‘work is our sole identity’. In all our activities, honesty and transparency are our commitments. It is our vow to create a ‘PAF Family’ where true love would be the common bond for each and everyone of our children and elderly persons who have been marginalized in the society because of their destitution and abject poverty.
PAF is in its infancy now. It has started its activities with 19 children in the age- group 3-8 years (10are children of sex-workers and 9 are street children) and 2 aged persons at a remote village called Purokonda in Bankura district of West Bengal. A dwelling unit has been constructed on the land donated by the local Gouria Math and a tube-well has been sunk along with arrangements for minimum toilet/sanitary facilities. Plans are afoot to construct another dwelling unit so that more inmates can be accommodated. PAF has also decided to undertake a program to provide formal education to children of nearby ‘dom’ community( who were hitherto untouchables) by making them admitted to local school and bearing the expenses for their education. Other plans under active consideration include ‘ After-school assistance program for poor and less meritorious students of the near-by villages’ and ‘Running abridged course for drop-out children of the locality’.
Till now, PAF is carrying on its activities entirely with donations from well-wishing individuals, and, as expectedly, this would have to continue for the near future as well. While we are making sincere efforts towards receiving some kind of institutional funding, we also appeal to all sympathetic individuals and/or organizations for financial help. We sincerely hope that you will be kind enough to extend a helping hand to our activities by sponsoring one or more of the following activities of PAF.

(i) Educational sponsorship for one school-going child for one year Rs. 2000 or US $ 50
(ii) Sponsoring one child for one year Rs. 12,000 or US $ 300
(iii) Sponsoring an aged person for one year Rs. 12,000 or US $ 300
(iv) Sponsoring a pre-primary educational centre Rs. 6,000 or US $ 150
(v) Sponsoring book -bank for school books Rs. 3,000 or US $ 75
(vi) Sponsoring an after-school assistance program /abridged course for drop-outs Rs. 2,000 or US $ 50
(vii) Sponsoring a vocational training program for a group of 20 women Rs. 2,000 or US $ 50

CONTRACT FORM FOR SPONSORSHIP

I would like to sponsor one or more of the PAF activities (please tick the appropriate one(s) above) viz., item no(s). (state whether full or part payment) ,and the amount thereof (Rs. and Rupees (in words) ) is being paid in cash by a/c cheque ( in favour of Purbachal Ananda Foundation) by dd by wired transfer(A/C No-213010100081290,U T I bank LTD,Durgapur Branch, Durgapur ( West Bengal ),Sahid Khudiram Sarani, City Centre,Durgapur, Dist Burdwan,Durgapur-713216).

Dear Sir, In our introduction, we are on NGO named 'Manav Kalyan Sansthan, working on street children and the problems of AIDS in the Jodhpur District of Rajasthan (India). Ever since 1995 our mandate is the overall development of the street children, we are providing day care centre with education, medical food & shelter facilities. We also extend our services in field of AIDS counseling and rehabilitating the Street children. The number of street children present in the boundaries of Jodhpur are over 5,000 and the situation is really pathetic & inhumane. We are presently looking for financial support, as for our mandate so that we can take up the activities in the benefited of the distressed children. However our present program is running under 'Rajasthan State AIDS control society' which is based on behavioral change in the street children. Furthermore, we understand that for overall development of street children there untouched, we believe that you and we share same missions & good & you will be happy to extend to us the financial support. If you have any querries about our organisation please feel free to have communication & sharing. Anticipating a favorable response. A VISIT TO THE PURBACHAL ANANDA FOUNDATION ASHRAM (PAF)

The last time I visited Durgapur was 20 years ago in 1986. I never thought I would need to visit Durgapur again but after Arindam Banerjee established internet contact with me in January ’06 things moved rapidly and I went to see him and the work of PAF in Purokonda village about 26 kilometres from Durgapur.

This is a brief note of my visit from 25 to 29 June ’06 and what I saw.

Arindam is assisted in his work by his noble parents and a fine set of young people, notably his wife, his sister and her husband, his friends Saikat, Swarupa, Biswajit, Rathin babu and others.

There are 19 little children, boys and girls under their care at the ashram in Purokonda village. The oldest is about 10 years and the youngest is 6 months. These children have wonderful smiles, quick intellect and are full of vibrancy. Seeing them one thinks “ Thank God that they were rescued from the conditions they were born into and have been given a new life due to the efforts of PAF”.

Their life is a very simple one. They live in 2 rooms built of mud and bamboo covered with a tin roof (which gets exceedingly hot in summer). The food is basic and consists of rice/dal/vegetable. They attend the village school where they get one meal as part of the government program. They are looked after by 4 house parents (2 male and 2 female) who live in the ashram. The house parents, 2 of whom are musical are teaching them songs with the help of a harmonium, tablas and a guitar. It is hoped a trained music teacher will visit once a week from Durgapur. Arrangements are being made for this. All in all it is a simple life but a happy one. This is what I saw.

On Monday 26 June one of the Rotary Clubs of Durgapur paid a visit and agreed to donate for the building of a brick and cement dormitory room with provision to add more rooms later. Three days later as arranged another visit was made by the Rotarians and a foundation stone was laid. I am informed that work on the building is progressing but is hampered by heavy rains.

The Dom community live in the area directly behind the ashram. They are very poor and earn a frugal living from making bamboo baskets. There is a good understanding between PAF and these people. Any efforts by PAF to assist these people would be gratefully received by them and will help the second generation to get out of grinding poverty.

I also went and saw the place where PAF had organised an after school coaching for all the village children and which used to be attended by 165 pupils. This place is surrounded by trees, is very serene and has an air of spirituality which you can definitely feel. Truly a wonderful place to learn in a gurukul atmosphere. Due to lack of funds this program stopped 3 months ago. It is hoped to restart this soon and PAF is looking for funds for this.

From my observation I can definitely say that PAF is doing a great social service. In the short time it has been established it has taken big steps forward. It has also taken a big responsibility to care for the 19 children which is hoped to be increased to 25. As always in these matters funds are required to keep the activities going and also growing.

I hope that as a result of my note it will inspire you the reader to contribute. A regular monthly contribution whatever the amount by means of standing order to PAF’s UTI Account is the best way to help PAF. They can then plan and not have the uncertainities of how the next expense will be met. If this is a constraint then a contribution or irregular contributions at different times will also greatly assist.

I can be contacted on ranjank_sen@yahoo.co.uk if you wish to know more.

Respected sir,

Greetings from g.suresh kumar, secretary of PASS.
which is serving for the dev. of poor dalith people in our dist(thiruvannamalai) of tamil nadu , INDIA.
now we are doing some services like free tution to pupils, forming SHG among dalit womens, givie training to educated grils ie.DMLT, DPH,awareness generation progarms & savings and credit programs.
Now we plan to do somethink for the dev of people in our dist.
because most of dalit have no capacity to compete with other high caste people . Pass strongly belives that to put the dalit in the society as equal as others.so we decieded to establish "DALIT INNOVATIVE CENTRE"(. DIC) . So we need some infrastructures and the running costs to run the project. We are also give some awareness to them to serve for thier own community. we train them to get good job , good future and service minded persons.
Please allow us to run the project for the future settlement of poor dalit peoples. we are also having the fcra no .(076080089)
Otherwise, Please guide us to get funds from suitable agency.
Thanking you. pls inform us whenever the grant application is possible.

Hello fellow Indians,

My name is Kris Costa. I am an Indian and currently stay in Suriname. I am in this forum to invite investors who are interested in making foreign investments in Suriname to send their requests.

Suriname has strengths in the following areas which can be capitalized on:

1. Hospitality and Tourism
2. Gold deposits
3. Banana agriculture
4. Aluminium Deposits

Suriname has weaknesses in the following areas which also can be capitalized on:

1. Healthcare
2. Sugarcane plantation which are nonproductive now
3. Education and Learning Systems
4. No manufacturing industry

There are potentials of various manufacturing industries in Suriname...glass manufacturing, botting plants, cold drink and beverages production.

Some of the strongest businesses now are:

1. Hospitality and Tourism(Semi organized)
2. Banana/Pineapple Cultivation(Not organized)
3. Aluminim mining(organized)
4. Food and Beverages (Organized)
5. IT/Education(Semi- Organized)

Please send your enquiries to worldleadershipforum@hotmail.com

The total population is approx 5 million. Approximately 2 million stays in the Paramaribo (the capital)

The Republic of Suriname has a total of 10 districts. Of late hundreds of chinese have been immigrating to Suriname through the help of the Chinese embassy and are setting up large departmental stores. We as Indians need to do something and make hay while the sun shines.

I am a Strategic Advisor to a large business group here and have been approached by various business already to help them. But what is of interest to me is organized development and restructuring of the economy.

Regds

I am looking for ideas to improve India's performance in the summer Olympics. I have started a website to gather resources for India's efforts in the upcoming editions of the games. What should be changed to bring in the change?

Thanks!

Crystal block print:
The image is very clear ,vivid and colourful. After being copied with hot melting craft, surface of picture becomes very sparkling. Effect of it can be compared to the crystal that edge is in a streamline form and has a third dimension. The craft makes the picture and the backboard be in an integral whole, which brings us a very amazing enjoyment.
Surface of picture is separated from air, which can efficiently prevent from oxidating, color fading, corrupting and UV.
Crystal block print is just right to meet people’s pursuit of lives and arts, which worths cherishing and appreciating.
Short as the beautiful time is, memory is forever.
Made into the crystal block print, the image can keep fresh forever, which is very pretty.
