| Drugs, Chemicals - Prescriptions and Addictions Who is Watching Out For Your Health? Staying chemical/drug free in a society that encourages the use of drugs is difficult. Did you know your body is an efficient producer of chemicals and that it can naturally produce every chemical you need, in the proper amount, as needed. Non-prescription and prescription chemicals (drugs) can and many times do have a negative effect on this natural production and utilization process. Returning your body to its intended, normal functioning after abusing chemicals is incredibly important and alternative therapies work well to restore your natural state. Neurotransmitters is one important group of chemicals you can and should produce naturally, they are biosynthesized from the nutrients you take into your body, physical exercise, your thoughts, the total of your life experiences. Neurotransmitters cause memory to take place, a sense of well being, learning, cognitive energy, motivation, a sense of pleasure and more. As an example, Serotonin has been talked of a great deal, because large amounts of money are made selling prescription drugs that affect its utilization. Serotonin is associated with the sense of well being, contentment, feeling less angry, thinking more positively about your life, etc., many of the same experiences sought after and associated with drug abuse. Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitors (SSRI) are among the most popular prescribed drugs in the U.S. 40 million, plus, prescriptions are written for SSRI=s every year. SSRI=s change your bodies natural Serotonin biosynthesis process. Drugs, chemicals, neurotoxins, infections and physical damage to the brain can and do effect your natural biosynthesis and utilization of at least one neurotransmitter. Alternatives to SSRIs Alternative therapies are effective in returning your body to as close to its natural state as possible after chemical abuse. Dont limit yourself to just one treatment modality. LSD, cocaine, amphetamines and high-estrogen birth control are some of the drugs that can affect the bodys production/utilization of Serotonin. (Disclaimer time: to my knowledge none of this information has been approved by the FDA, AMA or any other medical authority, This information is offered for your information only; please empower yourself and find out more) If your Serotonin is affected, check out the following: 5-HTP, B complex vitamins, trace minerals, complex amino acid protein, Tryosine, exercise, limit caffeine and sugar, eat fresh fruits and vegetables, do fun things, laugh, experience some success and recognize it, change your environment (if possible), focus on having only positive experiences in your life, etc. (a good start). Research, more information is available. Two more neurotransmitters negatively effected by drugs: Acetylcholine directly linked to memory, effective thinking, intelligence, muscle movement, etc. (effected by - amphetamines, PCP, Ecstasy, etc.); Dopamine directly linked to experiencing pleasure, energy, self-concept, etc. (effected by - cocaine, amphetamines, PCP, etc). Every body chemical, can be effected. Advertisements selling drugs are common Slogans and advertisements that indicate All you need to do is take a drug to resolve any negativity or unhappiness, boost your self confidence, relax, etc., THEN everything will be better. These claims and sales pitches for prescription drugs sound familiar, because they are the same ones used for non-prescription, not-legal, drugs. These advertisements appear with the blessing of our government. Chemically, prescription (legal) and non-prescription (illegal) drugs, can be and at times are very much the same. Empower yourself! You have heard of alternatives; however, you may know little about them, educate yourself.
