I am wondering if someone on this forum may be willing to help me. I am an American adult female, college student, currently studying physical therapy. I have been given an assigment to interview someone from a culture different than my own and who is not from the Western belief system. It is to help me learn about another's culture regarding health care beliefs and practices. If anyone would like to answer these questions, they are posted below. Please cut and paste the questions into your post. Please state your age, your country of origin and where you now live. If you feel uncomfortable answering any of the questions, just state that you'd rather not answer and skip that question. Thanks so much for your help! I would love to work overseas someday!

Interview Questions:

1. What types of foods are in your basic diet?

2. What are your personal food preferences?

3. Do those in your culture believe that certain foods/beverages are healthy or unhealthy? If so, give some examples.

4. Does your culture have certain food beliefs about special times?

5. Do people from your culture take herbs or tonics? If so, what are some examples? Who recommends them?

6. Are certain forms of medication preferred over others?

7. Have you or your family or friends ever visited a healer, a doctor of folk or traditional medicine, or an herbalist? Give some examples.

8. How do those from your culture view the roles of the specific body organs or parts of the body?

9. Do those from your culture believe that there is a direct relationship between emotions and disease?

10. Does your culture have any religious or folk prohibitions to surgery, blood loss or blood transfusion?

11. Do you, or others of your religion or culture, hold any special beliefs about lucky or unlucky numbers, signs, or days?

12. Are there any beliefs or taboos against the health care worker touching the top of the head or any other parts of a patient's body?

13. Do those from your culture believe that supernatural powers can cause illness?

14. Who is responsible for health care decision making?

15. How much about their health condition do those from your culture need or want to know?

16. How do those from your culture view concepts of time?

Thanks again for your help!!!!!!!

US Sport has released a press release about the NBA Exhibition games in China for charity at Here is an excerpt from their press release:

"Dennis Scott, former NBA standout with the Orlando Magic and 3pt record holder, and one of the founding members, just recently returned from formal negotiations with the China Red Cross. In speaking about the upcoming events, Mr. Scott said; 'I am very excited to be working with the China Red Cross. The United States and China share the same love for the game of basketball. After meeting and working with the people of China, it obvious that we have a lot in common. The Chinese people are family oriented, love sports, and have a great sense of humor. I am confident that our partnership will bring much needed assistance to victims of natural disasters, families, children and the great people of China!'

"York Galland, US Sport CEO, signed a formal partnership agreement with China Red Cross and presented a 'generous' donation of products and authentic signed basketballs, hats and jersey’s to be auctioned by the CRC for charitable contributions. In Beijing at the CRC Opera Charity Event, York Galland and Dennis Scott, each gave a short speech expressing their excitement and gratitude in working with the CRC to co-host the summer exhibition games. Charlie Zhao, US Sport’s China President and Allen Tian, US Sport’s President of Asia-Pacific, have been working with the CRC and other major Chinese and International Corporations, to participate and co-sponsor these events.

"US Sport has assembled a team of former NBA Players who will participate in several exhibition games in different cities throughout China. These games will co-hosted by participating cities, and Chinese players will be selected from local talent. Additionally, US Sport will be promoting youth basketball training clinics in China. US Sport’s team of legends players will teach US style skills and techniques to the largest group of youth in the world."
