In Canada, there has been much debate in the past week on the seal hunt. Canada has received much criticism worldwide due to the seal hunt. I believe that Canada must stop the seal hunt. They are innocent and defenseless animals. Here is a petition I started. It takes less than a minute to sign.

I liberated a lobster tonight.

Liberated it from the tank in to my stomach! Man, was it DELICIOUS! I had it grilled and stuffed with a crabmeat and seafood stuffing! Don't worry, I didn't let any of it go to waste, I ate every bit of meat on it!

Sheriff Eddie Cathey plans on building a gas chamber in Union County Animal Shelter (North Carolina). He claims that the traditional method of sodium pentobarbital lethal injections are too much work for shelter employees. He thinks that gassing is more efficient, and get this - more HUMANE!

Let's stop yet another shelter from gassing helpless animals.

I urge you to write an email directly to Cathey at EddieCathey@co.union.nc.us

He has stated to me in an email that NO ONE has contacted him by telephone. I also encourage you brave individuals to politely chew his ear off at: 704-283-3789

Here is the online petition, which includes more information as well as a video of Cathey talking:

Please pass this along.

I am involved with a rabbit rescue organization and am trying to reach as many animal shelter employees in the state of Maine as possible. There is a man named Jarred posting video clips on YouTube of live animals being fed to his pet python. He lives in Maine but the exact location within the state is uncertain. We have reason to believe that he has obtained some of these animals from local shelters in Maine. I am letting you know this is happening in order to alert your facility and to prevent this from happening in the future. Here is the link to his main YouTube page:

www.youtube.com/profile?user=FartherAway420

Here are links to his personal introduction so you can see what this creep looks like:

Here is a link to one of his video clips (he has many) with the animals being fed live to the snake. This is so disturbing that I had to turn it off as soon as the poor animal was placed in the snake’s compartment. Please do not view this if it bothers you too:

I appreciate your assistance with this matter!

This is so sad, and so unacceptable. Shelters should NOT be rushing to euthanize animals. :(

Here's someone you might want to contact. He apparently loves to kill deer in incredibly violent ways and is proud of it. He's putting his contact info out there for all the world to see...

> We are killers.
>> Do you know that the last deer we shot the arrow broke it's spine and
>> was sitting there and couldn't move? I had to go up to it and stab it.
>> FYI you can't slit it's neck because it will be able to breath.
>> Thanks for your opinion. I understand that millions of people feel the
>> same way.
>> You will never make a difference.
>> Keep wasting your time and good luck.

My name is Audrey and I have a dog named Thunder. Thunder has a broken leg and is going to need surgery to have pins put in. The surgery is going to be $2500 to $3000 which is a lot of money so we are fundraising and hoping you could help! Thunder is being helped by a non-profit organization called IMOM. IMOM helps pay for vet bills for pets that otherwise could not afford treatment. If you’ve been in that situation before, you know that vets in general do not want to set up payment plans and they want money upfront. You can use the link below, it’ll take you too Thunder’s page and you can donate from there and it will be earmarked for him. You could also donate towards the organization – they really provide a helping service! These animals need help – please forward this to as many people as possible – PLEASE HELP!!

Thank you!

Bear Spirit Rising - A Community Reaches Out

Council of the Haida Nation Resolution
RESOLUTION 95-01-HOA13 • RECREATIONAL HUNTING OF BLACK BEAR ON HAIDA GWAII
WHEREAS many black bear are killed each year on Haida Gwaii by recreational hunters; and
WHEREAS the killing of these black bear is wasteful and contrary to Haida ethics;
BE IT RESOLVED that the 1995 House of Assembly directs the Council of the Haida Nation to act to halt the recreational killing of black bear on HaidaGwaii

Haida Gwaii, [Queen Charlotte Islands], home of the Haida First Nation, is an archipelago in the Pacific Ocean 75 – 150 kms off the north coast of British Columbia [B.C.] Canada It is also home to an endemic sub-species of bear [ursus americanus carlottae] that is found nowhere else in the world and is North America’s largest Black Bear.

In spite of their vulnerability due to limited range, habitat destruction caused by industrial clear-cut logging and food depletion resulting from a decline in wild salmon stocks, our bears are being commercially hunted. And despite lack of study and comprehensive census the B.C. government has yet to set a limit on how many may be killed [harvested].

These large bears are an attractive prize for foreign trophy hunters and hunting activity has recently increased. More than 400 have been killed in the last 8 years alone. We are concerned that this unfortunate set of circumstances will lead to the endangerment and eventual extinction of this magnificent animal. A Council of the Haida Nation Resolution calls for an end to the recreational killing of bears on Haida Gwaii.

Exclusive non-resident hunting rights are held by the government licensed company, Prophet Muskwa-Pacific Outfitters. An example of their unethical and unprofessional hunting practices has been recorded and posted on www.youtube.com - taansaver . Taan is the Haida word for bear.

On the nearby B.C. mainland a similarly unique variety of bear, the kermode or “spirit bear” has been protected from hunting. We seek equal recognition and the same protection for the Haida Gwaii black bear. Please join us by encouraging the regulation of more humane treatment for these bears, and, to ensure their continued survival, the designation of “protected” status... Thank you.

As an animal lover, I am sure you are aware of some of the cruel practices that are used nowadays to "train" family companions.
Invisible fences have struck a major and personal chord with me lately.
Check out this link as well as others:

http://blog.helpinganimals.com/2008/01/invisible_fencing_visible_pain.php

Please do research on these methods and get the info out to those who are unaware!
Also, please feel free to email your views on this cruel training method to the individual(s) below - who are not only for these torture devices but also relentlessly attempting to harrass and heckle anyone who IS for animal rights:

I am an Irish anti-blood sports campaigner and my book Bad Hare Days (see website of Olympia Publishers for info, that's www.olympiapublishers.com) is generating a lot of controversy, not unexpected given the long running debate on the ethics of live hare coursing in Ireland. I can accept criticism, but not the bullying and the blind unreasoning hatred that my legitimate opposition to this so-called sport has elicited from some coursing fans

My book was NOT written to drive coursing fans wild, or to split families and divide communities, as one critic has accused me of doing. I have received phone calls from defenders of hare coursing threatening all manner of unpleasantness!

There is such a thing as the constitutional right to free speech. I have got phone calls in the past week since the book went on sale telling what should be done with me and people like me.

I set out simply to recount my own personal high profile involvement in the Irish anti-hare coursing campaign.

I joined that campaign thirty years ago after witnessing scenes of cruelty in a field where hares were being netted for coursing opened my eyes for the first time to the downside of Ireland's "field sport" tradition.

I then determined to learn more about the peculiar form of "entertainment" that passed for sport in parts of the Irish countryside. Nauseated by the spectacle of hares being made to run for their lives from hyped up greyhounds, and by the heart-rending cries of the hares as the dogs tore them apart, I joined the campaign against blood sports.

I found that hare coursing was high on the list of activities that animal welfare people wanted banned by law. This we sought to achieve by picketing coursing events, letter writing on the subject, and lobbying politicians.

But I found that taking a strong public stand on a deeply emotive and controversial issue almost always carries a price tag.

I, like many others who opposed the powerful vested interests and lobby groups that promote and support hare coursing in Ireland, suffered at their hands. I was assaulted at work, subjected to severe bullying and fired from my job with a farmers Co-op for my anti-coursing and anti-hunting views.

I describe that in the book and it seems that some people now aren't happy with that. Fine. We can disagree, but bullying I reject with the utter contempt it always deserves. Bullying and democracy are opposites.

Hare coursing in Ireland has the backing of leading politicians and wealthy business people. The pro-animal baiting lobby has enormous influence within the corridors of power. This is why, despite being opposed by a majority of the population (according to opinion polls), this sadistic practise continues to shame our country.

But as far as simply holding and expressing one’s opinion on the subject is concerned…I certainly wouldn't attempt to prevent a hunter or coursing fan from writing his or her memoirs, so maybe they might respect the right of an "anti" to tell his story?
