Why expose yourself and your family to toxic products?
By Dawn Wierzba

It is your duty to research these products and protect your family. Don’t assume that because these products are on the grocery store shelf that they are safe. We like to think we are getting something that has been tested and proven to be safe. After all we have laws to protect our health and safety, don’t we?

The truth is the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does NOT:
* regulate personal care products
* review or approve a products ingredients before they are sold to the public
* require companies to do safety testing on their products before they are sold to the public
* require recalls of harmful personal care products from the marketplace

You may think you know what is in a product and its potential harms by reading the ingredient and warning labels, but think again! Manufacturers are not required to list the exact ingredients on the label. Also chemical names are often disguised by using innocuous trade names.
To name a few...
Ammonium Laureth Sulfate (ALES), Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate (ALS),Anionic Surfactants, Benzalkonium, Chloride Butylated Hydroxyanisole (BHA), Butylated Hydroxytoluene (BHT), DEA (diethanolamine), Dimethicone, FD&C Color Pigments, Formaldehyde, Isopropyl Palmitate, Lauryl or Cocoyl Sarcosine, Lauryl Sarcosine, Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) compounds, Propylene/Butylene Glycol, Quaternium-7, 15, 31, 60, Sodium Cocoyl Sarcosinate, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Laureth Sulfate , TEA (Triethanolamine) Laureth Sulfate, Toluene
These chemicals are known to cause cancer, reproductive complications, and biological mutations, but the labeling laws don’t protect the consumer, they protect big business. The #1 selling baby shampoo manufacturer isn’t going to tell you, they have two known carcinogens (cancer causing) or that the #1 selling laundry detergent has six known carcinogens and sodium sulfate which is known to trigger asthma attacks.

Incidences of cancer are increasing at a rate of one in three. In 2002, 557, 271 people died from cancer, 3,503 more than in 2001, but according to the National Vital Statistics report, Vol. 53 No 17 dated March 7, 2005, the mortality rate is decreasing. My questions is how?

Even if you don’t get cancer, these chemicals are also linked to diseases like, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, circulatory disorders, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s Disease, Asthma, ADD/ADHD and other behavioral disorders.

According to the Lung Association, Asthma has increased 600% since 1980.

Don’t let these big businesses control you. Do the research and find the best solution for your family.

About the Author: Dawn Wierzba has spent the last 2 years educating people on the toxins in their home and how to find a safer alternative. She is a mother of 2 girls that both have Asthma.
Both girls are now symptom and medication free since removing the toxic cleaners and personal care products from her home and switching to safer alternatives. To find out more visit her website at http://dndpartners.bravehost.com

If you have tried to quit smoking, you know how hard it can be to give up smoking. It is hard to stop smoking because nicotine is a very addictive drug. For some people, nicotine and smoking cigarettes can be as addictive as heroin or cocaine.
quitting smoking is hard. Usually people make 2 or 3 tries to stop smoking, or more, before finally being able to quit. Each time you try to quit smoking, you can learn about what helps and what hurts. There is one herbal aid that definately helps you to quit smoking here at this link http://www.effects-of-smoking.com

I wanted to let you know about Side Effects, an independent feature film produced by Hummingbird Pictures. The film has gotten a very enthusiastic response from the holistic community.

Starring Katherine Heigl of Grey’s Anatomy, Side Effects is a satirical, insider’s look at the questionable marketing practices of the pharmaceutical industry based on the writer/director’s ten years experience working as a pharmaceutical sales representative. View a trailer of the film and read reviews at the website: http://www.sideeffectsthemovie.com

A companion documentary, Money Talks: Profits Before Patient Safety, was created to give a more in-depth, academic perspective on the ethics of drug promotion, and features the commentary of key opinion leaders throughout the United States. View a clip of the documentary on the website in the press section. http://www.sideeffectsthemovie.com/press/

Entertaining and educational, the films offer a reasoned approach to the subject matter and are a terrific way to stimulate discussion about the sales tactics of the pharmaceutical industry.

"Knowledge is empowering…my patients need this information”

-Dale Brockman DC
Madison, WI
See what the press is saying:

“Biting” Soledad O’Brien, CNN

“The timing of Side Effects couldn’t be better”. Rita Rubin, USA Today

“Drop dead fascinating” Deborah Ray, Healthy Talk Radio

“Illumines as it entertains” Holistic Networker

“Quirky and Engaging” Marilynn Larkin, The Lancet

“Four Stars” Eric Campos, Film Threat

“A chilling expose” Yogi Times

“Fun, funny, insightful, and profoundly disturbing.” -Shannon Brownlee, freelance journalist

“...Side Effects, is funny, satirical and at times dead-on revelatory”
-Marc Eisen, Isthmus

“Anyone who has ever taken antibiotics, anti-anxieties, antidepressants, anticoagulants, anti-inflammatories, antihistamines, anti-flatulence, or anti-ANYTHING needs to see Side Effects.”
-Kelly Bartley, Left from Hollywood

Hummingbird Pictures has produced an independent documentary Money Talks: Profits Before Patient Safety. It has received such an enthusiastic response from many holistic and naturopathic practitioners.

Here's a brief synopsis of the film:

The 50-minute documentary, Money Talks: Profits Before Patient Safety, was created to give an in-depth, academic perspective on the questionable marketing tactics of the pharmaceutical industry, and features the commentary of investigative journalists and medical professionals including Dr. John Abramson, author of Overdosed America and Prescription Access Litigation Project Director, Alex Sugerman-Brozan. Other featured interviewees include Dr. Bob Goodman of Columbia University, founder of the ‘No Free Lunch’ program, and Dr. Jerome Hoffman of UCLA Medical School.

Engaging and educational, the film offers a reasoned approach to the subject matter and is a terrific way to stimulate discussion about the ethical implications of pharmaceutical promotion. Filmmaker Kathleen Slattery-Moschkau has received both national and international press coverage, including The Atlantic Monthly, CNN, The New York Times, Psychology Today, USA Today, Utne Reader and Yogi Times.

“Readers and viewers of Slattery-Moschkau’s work will be forever changed in their perception of the pharmaceutical industry,” said Dr. Bradley Lewis of New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study and Department of Psychiatry. “They will be better citizens—better prepared to help bring about legislation to curb the excess of an industry careening out of control.”

Greetings everyone! A friend of mine has introduced me to the most wonderful little toy/essential oil diffuser. It's called the Vaporbrothers vaporizer. You can do all sorts of neat things with it! My friend that introduced me to it uses it to diffuse her essential oils. She also showed me how you can vaporize the essential oils out of herbs, like lavender or eucalyptus. I went out the next day and bought one! It's fantastic! When I bought the vaporizer it actually came with a sample pack of herbs, quite tasty!! I highly recommend this product to anyone that can't smoke but still needs to get the important oils out of the herbs. It's also quite aromatic leaving it on all day with a bit of water and lavender oil!
