Hi All:

Here's an example of a horoscope reading, from the Western astrology school. This was obtained from

http:/www.msn.com/

Click on Horoscopes (found under Entertainment) in the right bar. Notice that, according to this reading, Saturn will turn direct in Cancer on Monday (march 21, 2005).

However, according to the star map for March 2005, Saturn is located in the zodiacal sign of Gemini, not Cancer. As far as the astronomer (or anyone who uses a telescope to observe the motion of the planets), is concerned, Saturn was observed to move retrograde fashion in Gemini. This retrogarde motion has now stopped and Saturn will start moving direct and will be seen in the zodiacal sign of Cancer in a few months.

The horoscope reading is pasted below.

Week of March 20, 2005
Saturn turns direct in Cancer on Monday, which is going to help you make progress with any travel plans or legal affairs you have in the pipeline.....etc.

The same goes for courses or classes that may have been rather obstacle ridden lately. In all ways, things should get a lot easier, though you will still have to work hard and deal with these matters to the very best of your ability. Still, if you are really keen on achieving something then nothing can stop you. Venus moves into Aries on Tuesday, helping you to use the gentle art of negotiation to try and smooth the way ahead when crossing choppy waters or closing difficult deals. It will also help you to be nice to your colleagues - within reason. But you have to know that Mercury continues to be retrograde in this section of your chart, so you can expect delays at work, especially when it comes to routine jobs that are usually no trouble at all. This is why you need to remember where you keep important documents, and back them up every day. There is a Full Moon in Libra on Friday, which will bring you powerful dreams - be sure to write them down.

Again, this is an illustration of the difficulties with the Western school of astrology which overlooks the ayanamsa correction. The house in which Saturn is located affects the predictions. Saturn in Gemini has different implications compared to Saturn in Cancer.

Also, note the remarks about a full moon in Libra. Again, with the ayanamsa correction, the moon will be in Virgo (Kanya rasi), not Libra (Tulsa rasi). This can be checked from the nakshtra for the full moon day on Friday, March 25, 2005, see Panchangam for the day which may be found at the link below.

http://www.panchangam.com/panchangam.asp/

The nakshtra (asterism associated with the full moon) is Uttara Phalguni, which is not placed in the zodiacal sign of Libra (i.e. Tula rasi).

Hi All:

To continue the discussion in the previous posts about the "scientific" basis for astrology and its predictive capabilities, I was able to get the following predictions for a child named VJ (hypothetical) born at 17:30 GMT.

The planetary positions and a brief astrological prediction are given below and were obtained from

http://www.astro-charts.com/?page=shop/chart1

My main concern is not the predictions but the correct positionining of the planets in the chart. This is where I like to begin. Then, we can worry about whether or not astrology is an exact science and how good the predictions.

If the planets are in the wrong houses, what is the point of the predictions?

Let's start by noting the position of the Sun. It is not located in Aries although it is now a couple days after the equinox. It will move to Aries 23 to 24 days after the equinox. (By the way, this is related to the tilt of the earth rotational axis. The plane in which the earth orbits makes an angle of 23.5 degrees with the plane called the celestial equator.)

I wish to end this series of posts and look forward to comments from others. As I have noted earlier, I look at astrology much like medicine, yoga, and other kinds of therapies. There is nothing exact even about medical sciences.

If it astrology can be used to make some useful predictions which can help people cope with their lives, I am all for it. However, I would like to develop some "scientific" rigor in this exercise, rather than just blind faith.

I recently came across an article where a statistical analyis of men's waistline (girth) was made and related to the risk of diabetes. The study concluded that girth was a better indicator of the risk of developing diabetes than was the body mass index (BMI). To me this study is no different from astrology predictions, although such studies are published in reputed scientific journals. The following is a quote by the author.

http://articles.health.msn.com/id/100101265/

"Abdominal fat measured by waist circumference can indicate a strong risk for diabetes, whether or not a man is considered overweight or obese according to his body mass index [BMI]," study author Dr. Youfa Wang, an assistant professor at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, said in a prepared statement.

Here the author's are using accepted scientific methodology. That's the main difference. Can we do the same with astrology and assess its merits and capabilities. Considering worldwide interest in astrology, I don't see why not.

Hi All:

This continues the predictions prepared for a child born on March 23, 2005, based on conventional (Western) astrology charts.

Mars 02° 11' Aquarius
Jupiter 15° 27' Libra

With an Aries Sun you possess abundant creative energy and enthusiasm for life. Very brave, positive and competitive, you have natural leadership qualities. Obstacles are overcome by sheer physical courage. An enterprising nature, with a capability for seizing opportunities is a factor for success. Recklessness and arrogance are your worst traits.

The predictions continue in the next post, since this has become too large. I had to split it into two.

The Moon in Virgo - Emotions, Feelings and Responses:

You have a practical and analytical quality to your emotional nature - your intellect is enhanced by this placement giving good memory retention and a fondness of learning. You have a strong need for personal and domestic cleanliness. Your home will usually be very tidy. Health and diet will also be important issues. You have a tendency to be critical of both yourself and of other family members.

Mars in Aquarius - Energy, Passion and Sex:

You assert yourself in an original, dynamic, intelligent, unorthodox, independent, resourceful, reformist, well organised and inspired manner. Freedom of thought and action to do ones own thing is of paramount importance. On occasion you can be changeable, stubborn and eccentric - perhaps even a bit zany. Much of your energy will be channelled into social action, in particular, humanitarian projects in any worthwhile field of endeavour - taking on the traditional establishment if necessary.

Jupiter in Libra - Wisdom, Knowledge and Philosophy:

You have the opportunity to develop a strong sense of morality, fairness and a concern for justice and moral principals in both marriage and close social relationships. There is likely to be an ability to influence the moral and social concepts of close friends and associates and a dignified, philosophical and humanitarian way of dealing with the public in general. These qualities are necessary in order to expand your personality and life experience.

Saturn in Cancer - Conscience, Limitations, Discipline and Ambition:

In order to succeed in your social position in the world you will have to gain knowledge and expertise associated with emotional strength and control in order to gain a real sense of self-worth. Inhibitions, hypersensitivity and early emotional instability will have to be overcome, and much effort will be required in order to understand your emotional, feeling nature. Life experience will force you to learn valuable lessons related to the above issues and many domestic, family and romantic confrontations will be afforded to help hasten the restructuring process.

Mercury in Aries - Mind, Communication and Mental Abilities:

You have a decisive, quick-witted, observant, sharp, original, inventive and competitive mind - able to originate ideas and put them into practice. Your talent for writing, speaking and debate enables you to influence others and promote your own ideas. At times you can be sarcastic, over enthusiastic, excitable and given to exaggeration.

Venus in Aries - Love, Affection and Relationships:

This indicates an impulsive, passionate, extrovert and bold romantic nature. There is a need for constant variety in both your romantic and social lives. You make friends easily and are fond of love and admiration. You make an enthusiastic, lively friend and an energetic colleague. Your refined appearance slips on occasion to reveal a very sensuous nature. An early marriage is probable. You can be a bit of a show-off, enjoy fine clothes, ornaments and all forms of luxury. You are inclined to having an easy come/easy go attitude towards money.

Hi All:

Astrotherapy: A New Science

I just thought of this new name for what I think I would like to see emerge: a new scientific discipline, which we can call Astrotherapy.

When a child is born, a chart is prepared which indicates the position of the planets in the sky on that day. This then becomes a part of the child's memorabilia, just like ultrasound images when the child is in the mother's womb and photographs taken in the maternity, before, during, and after childbirth.

Then we compare the predictions over the lifetime of the child. For example, as I have noted earlier, the 7.5 years of Saturn periods can be readily ascertained from the position of the moon and Saturn (Vedic astrology, with ayanamsa corrections). This can be a very useful tool for the child to prepare for difficulties that must be invariably faced during these periods.

Other predictions can also be tested. If three planets are in ruling position and are well aspected, located in good houses, etc., the child is destined to achieve fame, fortune, power, prestige and so on. This was the case with Queen Elizabeth. She was not destined to become Queen. Her father was not the King. Her uncle, King Edward, suddenly abdicated the throne. Her father, George, the younger brother, became King and Elizzabeth ascended the throne (at a very young age) soon after her father's untimely death. The rest is history.

However, her son, Prince Charles, born November 14, 1948, destined to become King is not yet a King. We can never tell. May be the stars do. Is Jupiter located in a good position for Prince Charles? That is one of the tests. And there are others - such as three planets being in rulership. Can this become a new scientific discipline?

They say Kepler was, perhaps, the last astrologer who was also an astronomer and the last astronomer who was also an astrologer.

The new discipline called Astrotherapy will have a curricuulum which will include astronomy, astrology, a good dose of statistics and astrophysics, celestial mechanics, and a study of medicine and other behavioral sciences such as psychology. Computer literacy a must.

A minimum of 24 college level credits will be required and the person will then be awarded a degree and certifications. Then they must pass an exam, like doctors and lawyers do, before they can officially begin their practice.

How about that folks?

I am eagerly looking forward to your comments.

Hi All:

This morning I again found the article Healthy Gums, Healthy Heart mentioned in an earlier post

http://cholesterolmatters.msn.com/article.aspx?aid=21

Often we do not understand cause and effect, as we see from the following remarks in the article: researchers do not know which came first. Likewise, Astrotherapy can become a scientific discipline that explores relationships between life events that we barely understand today.

******

The research is just the latest in a slew of studies pointing to a link between bad oral health and a bad heart. But it's the first to show a direct connection to these bacteria, Desvarieux says. "In our population it was only those bacteria that cause periodontal disease — and not the seven control bacteria" that were associated with a thicker carotid artery. "That's pretty good evidence."

But it's still not a given that that trouble with your gums means a heart attack will strike. That's because researchers don't know yet which came first — the bacteria or the thicker carotid artery.

Hello All

I am here for the first time. We, my wife and I, had been to Pune recently and visited a Nadi Astrologer there. He was actually recommended by my friend who happens to be living in Pune.

I was really amazed by the way he predicted my wife's name, dad and mum's name. He also told us many things about our immediate past and they were right.

He has predicted the future and also told us the pariharams to correct our past mistakes.

I am really excited by this science. Can anyone tell us more about this and share their experience .
