Volunteer work for Summer 2004

Hi, I am a masters student in the US who is looking for an internship/volunteer work for the summer. I majored in International Affairs, Urban Planning of LDCs and History. I would like to work either with women and or children (perferably not infant) in Africa. I am interested in improving women's agency and or working with people with AIDS. I am able to teach, work on grants as well as other duties. I will be graduating in May 2004 and would like to do an internship before I go back to school.

Everybody interested in doing voluntary work in Uganda should look at www.patthechild.org . I am starting a small scale project in Uganda to provide a fantastic local organization to achieve its goals, and we are in great need of some people that can help.
You can also contact me: d.s.hopman@student.rug.nl

You can find an article about high school students providing aid to and raising awareness about Africa at http://voice.paly.net/view_story.php?id=4700. The article also mentions an organization, the Coalition of Willing, which rebuilds Africa's schools and wells, if anyone is interested in helping.

Do you desire to work for a noble cause then that of your employer? Perhaps your personal relationship have become a little stifled and you need time out Or perhaps it's the thought of a rural lifestyle in a tranquil setting, far from away from the noise and traffic, that's so appealing. A mixture of altruistic and personal reasons motivate people to give up their family and security of their lives at home to volunteer in some of the toughest regions in the world

Be it in the remote village somewhere in Africa with no light or in the jungles of the Amazon forest, volunteering can change your life

In developing countries you will be immensely uncomfortable with the level of poverty. At times you may question the value of the work you are doing or the role multilateral organizations play in the future of developing countries. On the upside, lots of people find volunteering satisfying because it enables them to put their skills to more meaningful use than they might be able to at home.

There is also the excitement of exploring a new culture, the prospect of personal growth and the chance to make new friends. Visit our website www.volcorps.org and read about our programs and the dates.Thank you

Anyone who would like to do volunteer work in Africa should have a look at www.counterparttravels.com. It's a great organisation that places volunteers in positions in which they actually have experience and interest. It's also very low costs. All positions are in Uganda, and the local support they offer is great. Volunteers can be placed in a wide variety of positions, and for any period of time.
