Summary of the events: the Toronto festival film
accepted to project a film done from
a friend of tree depraved people that some long ago
they shooted a scene of themselves while they were torturing to
died a cat. Obviously the Canadians and Americans animal-right supporter
did not accepted this terrible event
we pray to inundate with complaints the
Festival.

This is the letter

To the organizers of the Toronto International Film Festival:

I was horrified to learn that Linda Feesey's film,"Casuistry: The
Art of Killing a Cat", is scheduled as part of the Toronto Film
Festival.
As you likely know, the film discusses the notorious case of 2001 in
which Jesse Power, Anthony Wennekers, and Matt Kaczorowski videotaped
themselves torturing a cat to death.

We would welcome efforts to raise awareness about this act of cruelty.
However, you may not be aware that the producer, Linda Feesey, is an
associate of the cat torturers. (For example, her 2002 film, Mr.
Kafka's Holiday, starred Jesse Power's friend Jubal Brown, who was outspoken
in his support of Power during the cat video case.) Casuistry is another
opportunity for Power and his friends to defend their horrendous
actions.
According to the review in the Toronto Sun, the film features many
apologists for the cat torturers. The killers show no remorse for
their crime.
By including this film in the Festival, you are not only condoning,
but encouraging Jesse Power and his ilk in their actions of extreme,
premeditated, and illegal cruelty to animals. We urge you to remove
this film from your program. Please let me know as soon as possible what
action you will take.
Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely,

Your Name
Your Country

Dear friends,

probably many of you already know the Italian antivivisection campaign "Close down Morini" - where Morini is a farm which has been selling animals to vivisection laboratories (dogs and rodents) for more than 30 years. You can find info about the campaign on the website: http://www.morinicampaign.tk

Anyway, we are now here to ask your help for a specific purpose: now it's the time to make a STRONG pressure on the Mayor of S. Polo d'Enza, the small town where the farm is located. Why? Well, let's take a few steps back... two years ago, thanks to the huge protests from the public opinion all over Italy, horrified by the use of young beagle dogs in the vivisection laboratories, the Emilia Romagna Regional Council approved a regional law stating that "cats and dogs cannot be sold and used for experiments all over the region". This law has caused a lot of problems to the Morini farm, because its main income came from selling the dogs, more than rodents or any other animal, to the laboratories.

But the vivisectors pressured the national Italian Government, so the judgement of the validity of this law has been submitted to the "Constitutional Court". The Court has been examining the case for more than one year, during which time fortunately the law has been applied, and the farm has not been authorized to sell dogs to the vivisectors.

Few weeks ago came the result of the Court examination: a bad result, because they decided that the law is not valid - they said that a single
region cannot decide on this matter.

But at the moment the farm cannot sell dogs to the laboratories, yet, because in order to have the necessary permission renewed, the Mayor of the town must give an explicit authorization.

The former Mayor was absolutely in favour of the Morini farm, but A FEW
WEEKS AGO A NEW MAYOR HAS BEEN ELECTED!
So it's really important to make pressure on him to convince him to
"reconvert" the farm to another activity.

The interesting and new event is that a few days ago an "Open Meeting" of citiziens and companies operating in S. Polo has been created.
They wrote an "open letter" to the Mayor, asking him to stop the activity of the farm, both because of its cruelty and because of the damage to the "image" of the region and consequently to the business opportunities of all the other local companies**.

At this crucial moment, the Mayor must feel the responsibility for such a choice. It's a fundamental moment.

For this reason, we invite all of your to send him and all the regional council members, a "strong and clear" message. Here we present a draft
message, but you are invited to write a personal one!

During the "Open Meeting", a network of animals shelter has been activated, and they are ready to accomodate ALL the animals now kept in the farm.

The complete text of the "open letter" to the Mayor can be found at the
page:
http://www.novivisezione.org/morini.html

Please, take part in this protest!
Thank you very much.

I write at the next message the letter to send....

Dear Mayor of S. Polo d'Enza,
Dear Regional Councillors,

having been informed of the creation in S. Polo of an "Open Meeting on the Morini case", which asked you not to allow the Morini farm to keep selling dogs and cats to the experimentation laboratories, I want to express my full support to the goals of the Open Meeting.

Given that the Morini farm has been given the opportunity to be "converted" to a cruelty-free activity (thus ceasing to sell any kind of animals to the labs), I think that this is the right way to go, and invite you, as a Mayor of the city, to do what is in your power to reach this important and humane goal.

Best regards,
name, country

International demo in Geneva- Switzerland
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

RBM - Marxer is an Italian laboratory which has been performing experiments on animals for more than 30 years.

NoRBM is the name of a Campaign that a group of people are carrying on,
in order to stop these cruel and useless experiments.

Serono, a multinational pharmaceutical company which has its main offices in Geneva, now in practice is the RBM's "owner", because it owns almost the 97% of RBM's shares.
Without Serono, RBM would have been closed down years ago, and the animals in its laboratories wouldn't have been suffering and killed.

Serono is RBM's unique and last stockholder!

****************************
Don't miss the international demo against the vivisection experiments financed by Serono! 30 October 2004, Geneva, Switzerland.
****************************

Meeting point: Rue du Mont Blanc, near the railway station, 2 p.m.

Let's Serono and the whole city of Geneva know how many people say NO to VIVISECTION!

Further info: http://www.norbm.org/rbmvivisection

Please, spread the news all over the world.

Thank you.

The demo is organized by the Swiss antivivisection organization ATRA.

Shaun,
Religion is never ridiculous. What is ridiculous is the self-righteous, ethnocentric attitude that you are portraying in your holier-than-thou crusade.
And yes, I have studied the Etoro people myself (I'm an anthropologist). It is not rape, because it is not considered a sexual act. It is a coming of age ritual. Take an anthropology class, then maybe, MAYBE, you can hold your own in an ethical debate involving such discussions.

Dear Animal Friend,
The sudden death of Tatima, an elephant at Chicago's Lincoln Park
Zoo, has shocked and saddened the animal protection community. For
months, activists in the Chicago area have been urging the zoo to
retire its three elephants. With the onset of cold weather, the
situation became even more dire. We can only hope that this tragedy
will serve as a wake up call and provide further proof of what
animal advocates have been saying for years: animals in captivity
suffer, and often die before their time.
Whether you gather signatures to get elephants transferred from the
local zoo to a sanctuary

1. Lincoln Park Zoo Elephant Dies
Elephant advocates are calling for the transfer of two surviving
elephants at Chicago's Lincoln Park Zoo to sanctuaries in the wake
of Tatima's untimely death at age 34. IDA issued statements that
Tatima's death highlights the health problems and shortened lifespan
that zoos inflict on elephants. IDA's statements implicate the San
Diego Zoo in Tatima's death, as well as the declining health of the
two remaining elephants, Peaches and Wankie. In April 2002, the San
Diego Zoo dumped the three ailing elephants at the Chicago Zoo to
make room for younger, wild-caught elephants from Africa.
"The shocking betrayal of these elephants by the San Diego Zoo has
ended in tragedy," said IDA president Elliot Katz, a
veterinarian. "Instead of living up to its moral obligation to
provide care to the elephants in their old age, the San Diego Zoo
exiled them to cold, windy Chicago, where their health further
declined. The Zoo must now do the right thing and send Peaches and
Wankie to an elephant sanctuary where they will have space and
climate more conducive to good health."
Research and the spate of recent elephant deaths continue to
document that elephants confined in zoos only live out about half
their natural lifespan. Whereas the average age at death for captive
elephants is 34 years, a natural lifespan for wild elephants is 60
to 70 years. Recently, a zoo-industry trade group (American Zoo and
Aquarium Association) promoted a misleading report on captive
elephant lifespan that excluded all infant mortality, among other
relevant factors. However, independent data continue to show that
elephants in captivity die prematurely. Prior to early death,
elephants suffer from a range of captivity-induced health problems,
including painful joint and foot disease, digestive disorders, and
tuberculosis, a disease that humans passed on to elephants.
IDA was part of a coalition that filed two federal lawsuits to stop
the San Diego Zoo from importing the wild African elephants, and we
have been a vocal opponent of the transfer of the three elephants to
Chicago. Earlier this year, IDA successfully convinced the San
Francisco Zoo to transfer its two surviving elephants to the
Performing Animal Welfare Society Sanctuary in California. Click
here to read the article that appeared in the San Diego Union-
Tribune.
