Re: Flywheel technology for cars

Marco,,,, I am also looking for more info concerning US Flywheel,,, I seen a article in Discover Magazine a few years back,,,, Discover's web site doesn't show reference in search... I believe it was April or May of 1995 issues that ran the article... I would appreciate any info you find out...

U.S. Flywheel Systems is in Newbury Park, CA.

Yeh, pretty cool technology. It just makes too much sence and avoids most of the pitfalls of the other complex technologies. We will be lucky to see it get past the testing stage.

It's funny how new "cheap" energy technologies seem to just fall by the wayside??? Big Brother???

Re: Flywheel technology for cars

The company i think you are talking about was founded and funded by a man by the name of Ben Rosen. The company has since gone out of businees due to a lack of insurance cooperation. He now only has self funded and private cars which run on this power.

Re: Flywheel technology for cars

Ever since reading August 1996's Discover Magazine, I have been fascinated by the idea of an electric car that incorporates the flywheel as an energy storage device. Yet I have been disapointed to find little information on such proyects and no follow up by the magazine on this potentialy revolutionary technology.
Does anyone know what, if anything, has been achieved since?
Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Re: Flywheel technology for cars

Try US Flywheel Systems in Newbury Park CA in Ventura County.. They are building a system for NASA's intnl space station but could equip an automobile. Ask for Jack Bitterly.

Check out http://godzilla.grc.nasa.gov/ppo/flywheel/em.html, NASA's planning on using USFlywheel's device as a replacement for batteries on the shuttle.
